Obesity: Obesity is a rapidly growing serious problem. Because of this many types of chronic diseases are spreading. If obesity is not controlled in time, the body can become home to diseases. A surprising report regarding obesity has been published in the medical journal Lancet. This shows that 9 of the most obese countries in the world are from the Pacific region only. These include islands like Fiji, Samoa, Solomon, Papua New Guinea and Micronesia. According to the report, obesity has been seen more in people aged 20 years and above in these countries.
what does the report say
Based on the data of 2022, research has shown that at present, more than 1 billion people across the world are in the grip of obesity. This number has doubled among adults since 1990. At the same time, it has increased four times in the age group of 5 to 19 years. The report states that in 2022, 43% of adults were overweight. In this study conducted with the help of WHO, it was told that overweight, obesity and diet related diseases have increased in people of all ages in the countries of the Pacific region. Due to which sudden death or disability has also increased. Obesity increases the risk of diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease.
WHO told ways to reduce obesity
1. Governments of the Pacific region, health workers, parents, teachers, sports stars and religious leaders should come together and make people aware.
2. Make unhealthy food and drinks expensive, so that more people are not able to access them.
3. Make healthy foods and drinks cheaper.
4. Promote healthy foods during pregnancy and babies should be breastfed for 6 months from birth.
5 Develop healthy habits since childhood. Pay attention to the height and weight of children regularly.
6. Give guests healthy things to eat instead of unhealthy junk foods.
7. Give some time to exercise in the day.
